Netanyahu Faces Legal Predicament Amid Scandals

Recent scandals involving Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu highlight allegations of corruption, media manipulation, and the handling of sensitive military information. Amid ongoing investigations, his trial for corruption may face further delays due to the current conflict.

Netanyahu Faces Legal Predicament Amid Scandals

The Ministry of Defense possessed confidential information that ended up in the hands of officials from Netanyahu's office, who allegedly leaked it to the media with biased manipulations. This refers to the supposed conspiracy of the late Hamas leader, Yahya Sinwar, to escape with hostages from Gaza through the Philadelphia corridor. Netanyahu used this false information to justify military control of the border between Gaza and Egypt.

Netanyahu has faced accusations of fraud, bribery, and breach of trust in three separate cases since 2019. He is accused of receiving gifts in exchange for favors and seeking favorable coverage in various media. His legal team requested to postpone his hearing to March 2025, but the court set the date for December 2.

The judicial process has been affected by several delays due to situations such as the wars in Gaza and Lebanon. Netanyahu requested a new delay of more than two months for his testimony, citing lack of time to prepare it. Four suspects are detained in connection with this case, including Netanyahu's spokesman and close advisor.

The "BibiLeaks" scandal involves the Prime Minister's Office and intelligence officers in the alleged dissemination of classified material to the media to influence public opinion. The Israeli Attorney General has requested to investigate Netanyahu for these leaks. Additionally, Netanyahu’s chief of staff was accused of extorting an official to alter minutes of meetings prior to a Hamas attack in October 2023.

Despite the claims, a state investigation into the Hamas attack in October 2023 has not yet been conducted, and the army has also not released its internal findings on what occurred. On the other hand, Netanyahu's legal defense has requested a new delay in his ongoing corruption trial, which has been underway since 2020.
