In his speech at the meeting of the finance committee in Knesset, Israel's finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, revealed a proposal from his cabinet colleague, communications minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer, asserting that the initiative proposed by him on increasing funding for security is unfounded.
"Let's be rational. This is not a style that can be applied interchangeably. We, as the government, should cultivate a method of managing finances that will contribute to the economic stability and enhancement of our country's power," noted Bezalel Smotrich.
Ben-Eliezer's proposal anticipates an increase in budget allocations for security in the amount of 11.5 billion shekels in connection with security challenges that Israel has faced. However, Bezalel Smotrich stated that such an approach is impractical and unreasonable.
"It is necessary to seek a balance between security and economic needs," added the finance minister.
