The commander of the Israeli armed forces, Hadi Aizenko, stated on Tuesday that during the time of war in the Gaza sector, which began in July, the army has destroyed about 20 thousand Hamas fighters.
"We were able to penetrate directly into the tunnels of the terrorists, destroyed huge stockpiles of weapons, eliminated about 20 thousand Hamas fighters, practically wiped them out," he said.
G-Head Aizenko also noted that the army discovered more than 30 tunnels, intended for incursions into Israeli territory.
It should be noted that during the course of the war in the Gaza sector, more than two thousand Palestinians have died, most of whom, according to UN estimates, were civilians.
