The Israeli-Mexican ex-rehén Illana Gritzewsky expressed her desire for the ceasefire agreement in Gaza to hold so that her partner, Matan Zangauker, still kidnapped and not included in the list of the 33 hostages to be released, can return home.
"I live in a hurricane of emotions. This is not just our war, it is their war, but I believe they are very weak on the other side (referring to Hamas)," Gritzewsky declared after her investiture.
Regarding the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, currently in effect, three phases are planned in which Israeli hostages will be gradually exchanged for Palestinian prisoners. Gritzewsky, 31 years old and who was held captive for 55 days, pleads that the agreement be upheld so that her partner and kidnapped friends can also return.
The couple was kidnapped during a Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, at the kibbutz Nir Oz, where they lived. Gritzewsky was released in the first truce agreement sealed in November 2023 between Israel and Hamas.
Despite the hardships endured, Gritzewsky remains hopeful of reuniting with her partner and rebuilding their life. The second round of exchanges is scheduled for Saturday, January 25.
Hamas plans to release four women in this second round, while Israel is expected to announce the Palestinian prisoners who will be released in the coming days. However, so far, only the first phase of the hostage exchange has been completed.
Gritzewsky recounts the physical and psychological aftermath she faces, with her ongoing treatment being crucial for healing. The uncertainty about her partner's return does not cease, and she is tormented by the possibility of a new failure in the negotiations.
