Israeli Finance Minister Visits USA to Boost Economic Ties

The Finance Minister of Israel - an ally in the annexation of the Western Bank of the Jordan River - Benzion Smotrich announced his unplanned visit to the USA on Tuesday. He is heading to America with the aim of "strengthening economic cooperation between Israel and the United States, promoting joint economic initiatives and deepening the strategic alliance between the two countries".

Last week, Israeli armed forces demolished several residential houses and cleared a wide route through the Palestinian refugee camp Nur-Shams on the western bank of the Jordan River.

"The purpose of the visit is to strengthen economic cooperation between Israel and the USA, to promote joint economic initiatives and deepen the strategic alliance between the two countries," wrote Smotrich in his post, accompanying it with a photograph from the plane.

Smotrich's visit comes at a time when US President Donald Trump may officially announce his position regarding the annexation of the Western Bank of the Jordan River, territories occupied by Israel since 1967, in full or in part.
