Jerusalem - (AFP) The Israeli army announced on Wednesday that four soldiers were injured in clashes with Palestinian fighters in the southern Gaza Strip, despite a US-brokered ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which has been in effect since October 10, being repeatedly violated. In a statement issued from his office, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Hamas of violating the ceasefire agreement.
The Israeli army stated that during an operation in the eastern Rafah area, its soldiers encountered a number of fighters who emerged from a tunnel. Meanwhile, a security source in Gaza told AFP: "This afternoon, there was a very intense artillery shelling from occupation mechanisms east of Rafah city, accompanied by heavy fire from warplanes."
