Uncertainty Over Rafah Crossing Reopening

Uncertainty remains over the date for the Rafah crossing's reopening. Israel and Egypt disagree on the daily number of people allowed to cross the border.

Uncertainty Over Rafah Crossing Reopening

Uncertainty still surrounds the date for the reopening of the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt, as Israeli reports reveal disagreements over the number of people entering and leaving the enclave. Israel's public broadcaster initially reported that the crossing was expected to open in both directions next Sunday, but later pointed to disagreements over the numbers. Israel had previously announced that it would reopen the Rafah crossing for pedestrians only, imposing a 'comprehensive Israeli inspection mechanism.' Israel also confirmed that Egypt insists on an equal number of entrants and exits daily, while Israel prefers the number of exits to be greater than the number of entries, aiming for around 150 exits versus 50 entries per day.
