The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Thursday evening that they had just begun another «wave of attacks» against Tehran. «The IDF have launched a major wave of attacks against the infrastructure of the Iranian terrorist regime throughout Tehran,» they stated in a brief communiqué. Hours earlier, the Israeli Army had confirmed that its air force had attacked Iranian checkpoints and soldiers from the paramilitary Basij unit in Tehran over the past 24 hours. «Following extensive damage to the main assets of internal security forces and the Basij unit, the Israel Defense Forces identified in recent days that Basij soldiers had established checkpoints in several areas of Tehran,» they detailed at the time. In another communiqué, they also indicated they were simultaneously attacking Beirut and southern Lebanon. «The IDF have launched a widespread wave of attacks against the infrastructure of the terrorist organization Hezbollah in southern Lebanon,» they stated. The head of the Israeli Army, Eyal Zamir, said today that the war against the Lebanese Shiite group «will not be short» and insisted on the Israeli government's message that «the Lebanese government is not exercising its authority within its own territory,» threatening that Israeli troops would do so. Early this morning, at least twelve people were killed in an Israeli attack on a beach area in Beirut with a high concentration of displaced persons, the deadliest in the Lebanese capital since the start of the Israeli air offensive more than ten days ago. This action coincided with intense bombardments also in the capital's southern suburb of Dahiyeh, one of the areas hardest hit by an air offensive that has already caused at least 634 deaths, 1,586 injuries, and more than 800,000 displaced persons.
