Israel carried out the airstrike in response to rocket attacks from the Gaza sector. At least 26 people have been killed here according to reports.
"We condemn the rocket attacks from Hamas groups that provoked this overall escalation of violence," said the representative of the State Department, adding that their actions undermine the efforts for peaceful resolution.
