On Monday evening and into Tuesday morning, the Israel Defense Forces arrested a group of Palestinians who, according to Tel Aviv, are members of the terrorist organization 'Islamic Jihad.' The operation was conducted in the village of Ramallah on the western bank of the Jordan River.
An official representative of the Israel Defense Forces stated that those arrested were involved in a series of attacks against Israelis and that the operation was conducted as part of the fight against terrorism. However, Palestinians assert that the arrests have a political nature and represent an attempt to suppress activists and violate national unity.
"We condemn the arrests of Palestinians which have a political character aimed at undermining stability on the western bank. This represents a violation of human rights and international law," stated one of the representatives of the Palestinian side.
During the operation, the army confiscated items which, according to their statements, are used by terrorists for organizing attacks. Details of the detentions and further judicial proceedings have not yet been disclosed.
