Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for lifting the suspension of a shipment of 1,800 MarK-84 bombs, each weighing 900 kilos, intended for Israel. In a video message, Netanyahu highlighted Trump's promise to provide Israel "the tools it needs to defend itself, confront our common enemies, and secure a future of peace and prosperity."
According to exclusive information from Axios citing Israeli officials, the shipment of the bombs had been halted by Trump's predecessor, Joe Biden, with the intention of preventing their use in the Gaza Strip. However, Trump decided to unfreeze the shipment, and the bombs will be transferred to Israel in the coming days from their storage in the United States.
Although Biden supported the Israeli offensive in Gaza and maintained the supply of arms, he decided to stop the shipment of these bombs in May 2024 for fear of their use in densely populated areas of southern Gaza. Trump, for his part, mentioned the possibility of building housing and relocating a million Gazans to neighboring Arab countries during a conversation with Jordanian King Abdullah II.
In statements collected by CNN, Trump emphasized the precarious situation in Gaza and expressed his intention to seek solutions that would allow the population to live in peace. Additionally, he plans to discuss this issue with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
