Israel's Defense Forces and the Shin Bet security agency announced the death of a high-ranking Hamas naval commander in a targeted attack in Gaza. According to a joint statement, Younes Mohammed Hussein Alian, commander of the northern Gaza brigade of Hamas's naval force, was eliminated on Monday. The statement notes that Alian was responsible for overseeing the naval forces, improving the unit's capabilities, and managing weapons training and readiness. It claims Alian had been working in recent weeks to rebuild the brigade's operational capabilities and was planning imminent attacks. The statement adds that precautions were taken to avoid civilian casualties, including the use of precision munitions and aerial surveillance. Hours earlier, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society and local medical sources reported that three Palestinians were killed and 14 injured in an Israeli airstrike on a vehicle in the al-Mawasi area in southern Gaza.
