The escalation of the conflict occurred after Israel accused Palestinian factions of firing at Israeli territory from the Shedrot region. In response, Israel began bombings in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, provoking an exchange of fire between the sides.
"We bear responsibility for the security in the south and will continue to act against those who attempt to attack our citizens and our territory," stated the Israeli Defense Minister.
