Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza Deepens Amid Israeli Unrest

A joint report from humanitarian organizations, including Anera, Care, MedGlobal, Mercy Corps, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), Oxfam, Refugees International, and Save the Children, indicates that Israel has not met the demands of the United States, which has had a high human cost for Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

According to the report, the U.S. government urged Israel to allow the daily entry of 350 trucks into Gaza, open a fifth access crossing, permit the movement of displaced persons from tents along the Mawasi coast inland before winter, and ensure access for humanitarian aid groups in the northern area. It was also requested to suspend two laws that restrict the operations of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA).

Jan Egeland, Secretary General of the NRC, denounced that access for humanitarian workers to northern Gaza remains restricted, and that the occupying power, Israel, has annihilated the Palestinian Police, hindering the distribution of aid to the needy population. So far, more than 1,800 people have died due to the offensive launched by Israel in early October.

The Israeli security cabinet met and approved measures to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza, although specific details were not provided. According to the report from the eight NGOs, of the 19 measures requested by the United States, Israel has failed to comply with 15 and has partially responded to four. Humanitarian aid delivery in Gaza has been limited and has not reached the required levels.

Despite Israel claiming to have sent aid, humanitarian organizations report that the quantity and quality of supplies are insufficient, and there have been incidents of looting of aid trucks. Amid this crisis, Israel announced the opening of the Kisufim crossing in the south as part of its efforts to increase humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.

In conclusion, humanitarian organizations warn about the serious situation in Gaza and the need for urgent action to prevent further suffering and loss of life in the region.
